Jean-Claude FalmagneThe Falmagne Chairs were created in 2013 in memory of R. Duncan Luce, one of the preeminent figures in the field of mathematical psychology and distinguished professor of cognitive sciences at UC Irvine, to support the integration of mathematical principles and techniques into research in cognitive science.

The donor, Jean-Claude Falmagne, research professor of Cognitive Sciences, is a leading mathematical psychologist and developer of ALEKS, a source for internet-based software for the assessment of academic knowledge in academic subjects including K-12 mathematics that has reached millions of students.

Extraordinarius Award

We are currently seeking extraordinary scholars with an exemplary track record of implementing innovative mathematical approaches to important questions in psychology or cognitive science. Of particular interest are individuals with a focus in human cognition or visual perception or related areas.

These scholars will join the Department of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California Irvine—which has a long history of interdisciplinary collaborative work and strong connections to mathematical approaches through the Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences.

The University of California, Irvine is the youngest member of 61 premier institutions in the Association of American Universities, and was the best US university under fifty years old (Times Higher Education rankings, 2014).
